filesWhat is a database?

"A database is a tool for collecting and organizing information..." - Microsoft

Even though a database can be so much more to so many people, the simplest definitions speak the loudest.  So, what does that mean to you as far as your website is concerned?   PLENTY!

99% of the time, the reason you are on the WEB is to convey a message - in other words, information.  Of course there are the basics, such as directions, phone number, email etc.., but people can get that from the phonebook (providing they are willing to get it off the shelf, open it and search for you).  Let's look at just a couple of deeper, more meaningful examples:

  • A church wants to give information to its congregation about upcoming events.  Perhaps even pictures of past events or sermons for the weeks before.
  • A car dealer wants to show the latest used cars that have come in to the showroom, with stats and pictures.
  • A restaurant wants to display it's menu as well as it's specials for the day.

...Well, you get the picture.  Successful businesses are all about relationships, and the best way to create those relationships is to get visitors to come back to your site... many times.  Databases enable you to change your information so that it is constantly fresh and different, this helps you with the Search Engines too.  TKJ Running START® templates not only enable you to change your data (without the help of a web programmer), but they let you change your data on ANY computer that is connected to the WEB!

Here's a list of some current database modules that we can "plug in" to your TKJ Running START® website:

  • Classifieds - Whether it is a job opening, new merchandise for sale, personal classifieds or pretty much anything you'd see in the paper version, this module provides categories and search capabilities so that your users will come back often for the latest offerings.
  • Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - More and more users are going directly to this area on a website, not only because they believe that what they want to know has probably been asked before, but also because there may be questions or concerns that they had not thought of yet.
  • Links - The more you help your users to learn about your product, industry or environment, the more they will patronize your site as a "centerpiece" of information.  Empowering them boosts your credibility as a trustworthy source.
  • Member List - If you are a administrator for any kind of community (House of Worship, Home Owners Association, Health Club, etc.) a member list can not only bring people together, but also KEEP them together.  Your site becomes the conduit of their community and fellowship.

Our programming procedures are such, that you aren't limited to these choices.  We can create a database for most scenarios at no extra charge.  Remember, ask..ask..ask!
